First holder of 3com Founders chair at MIT (1999).

Founder of W3C (1994), WWWF (2008) and ODI (2012).

Founder of Inrupt (2017), company that is developing Solid.

Creation of World Wide Web

Created WWW in 1989 while working at CERN.

Motivated by the difficulty of working with different information on different computers.

Built using a combination of Hypertext, TCP protocol and DNS

Berners-Lee defined the specification of URIs, HTTP Protocol and HTML

First web server (Httpd) running on a Next Cube
First browser (WorldWideWeb) was WYSIWYG
